Increase the Peace Film Festival 2006 Jumps Off

CYMC hosts the Annual 2006 Increase the Peace Film Festival at high schools throughout San Francisco.

January 2006: Burton High School lunchtime film screenings drew many youth who participated in discussion around violence prevention issues raised in the films.

February 2006: Thurgood Marshall students filled up the auditorium to check out CYMC films and interact with young filmmakers.

April 2006: Lincoln High School screened “Born into this Mess” to over 50 students at lunchtime with follow up break out sessions for discussion.

May 2006: CYMC films screened in the lunchtime courtyard as well in the media lab at Galileo High School to a combined class of video production who shared some of their latest work as well.

Some films addressing issues of street violence included in “Born into this Mess” by Miguel Rojas, “Turf War” by Dashena Burke, and “Unanswered” by Nakida Fusilier.

Thank you to the Wellness Centers, the youth outreach workers, and especially to Jodi Tsapis from Thurgood Marshall, Manuelito Biag from Burton, Jen Kenny-Baum at Lincoln, and Pamela Neher at Galileo.
